Odoo 18 addresses this with its Barcode application, a dedicated mobile-friendly interface that lets operators scan instead of type. Rather than opening a form and searching for a product, a single scan of a barcode identifies the item, records the quantity, and moves the operation forward. The module ties directly into Inventory, Manufacturing, and Point of Sale, so the same scanning experience covers receipts, deliveries, internal transfers, production orders, and retail checkouts.
What the Barcode Module Does Exactly
In essence, the Barcode application is a light scan-first front-end for the operational documents of Odoo. The user does not have to go through all the forms and menus; he opens the application, scans the operation, and then scans each item that is involved in the process. Odoo will recognize the barcode and make necessary corrections to the record.

From there, each product or component is scanned one by one; if a scanner is not available or a code will not read, the barcode can be entered manually by clicking the barcode icon on the top corner. As each line is scanned, it turns green to show it has been recorded, and once everything on the list is accounted for, the operator confirms the document, whether that means validating a transfer, producing a manufactured item, or completing a stock count.
